Outside Plant Technician

Job Location: Bloomfield, NM

The Outside Plant Technician position is a fulltime position, the primary focus of which is to test, service, install and repair various telecom Network elements such as Copper, Fiber optic and Radio wireless Broadband and Voice Services. This position requires exceptional computer and communication skills and reports directly to the Outside Plant Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, tests and repairs fiber, copper and radio network and equipment. Keeps necessary reports about each job performed.
  • Receives and analyzes trouble reports, pinpoints cause and corrects the trouble.
  • Locates buried network facilities such as Fiber optic and Copper.
  • Installs and repairs outside/inside cable for internet and voice services.
  • Works with aerial and buried plant in all weather conditions.
  • Troubleshoots fiber optic, copper and RF equipment.
  • Works with Voice, DSL technologies, WiFi, and IP based telecommunications.
  • Evaluates job sites to optimize placement of antenna radio, fiber optic or copper services to the home or business.
  • Assists other departments remotely to troubleshoot Network equipment.
  • Climbs various sized ladders up to 30’ extensions.
  • Safely operates equipment such as: aerial truck, trenchers, power augers, snow machines, bucket trucks, tractors, etc.
  • Handles emergency after hour callouts.
  • Works evenings and weekends if required.
  • Warehouse inventory & stocking duties.
  • Maintains the efficient operation, appearance and records of assigned vehicle and equipment.
  • Customer focused; ensures customer service is consistently provided to all customers.
  • Must demonstrate excellent, professional interpersonal communication skills and be able to work with limited supervision in high performance, team environment.
  • Keeps abreast of technology changes and telecommunications’ industry regulations.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and hygiene.
  • Perform other responsibilities as required to fulfill job function.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in installing, repairing and testing various types of Network facilities, copper, fiber, wireless, IP based telecommunications.
  • Ability to read and interpret network plant facility prints in a digital format.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat and lift overhead for long periods of time
  • Must be physically fit to perform job (must be able to lift 70 lbs.).
  • Ability to work in all types of weather.
  • Willing and able to work unscheduled overtime.
  • Able to climb poles up to 18’.
  • Able to climb various ladders up to and including 30’ extensions.
  • Must be able to perceive differences in wire and cable colors.
  • Proficient in Windows OS, Microsoft office suite & other software programs that may be required.
  • At least 5 years’ experience installing and repairing POTS facilities.
  • Cross training capabilities for CO and/or RF departments.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in splicing Network facilities such as Copper & Fiber Optics.
  • At least 5 years’ experience installing and troubleshooting T1, DSO, Digital loop carrier, High speed internet, and Wireless radio.
  • Working knowledge of various test equipment- Side kick, 965 DSP, EXFO, OTDR’s.
  • Working knowledge of locate equipment for buried Fiber optics, Copper cable.
  • Electronics training or experience that demonstrates knowledge of AC/DC theory & electrical circuitry.
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of home/sotto network terms, including IP, DHCP, WiFi, RJ45, etc.
  • Valid State driver’s license is required.
  • High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in telephone network or related fields.
  • Must live within 45 minutes of reporting location.

Outside Plant Inspector - Yatahey, NM

Outside Plant Inspector

Location: Yatahey, NM

The OSP Inspector must be qualified to perform field inspections of cable/fiber placement and/or cable/fiber splicing and/or construction work and may pre-survey construction packages when requested.  May assist with data preparation, documentation in reporting field results and may include field meetings with contractor and SWC management, as well as construction Contractors. This is a fulltime position that will report to the Director of Engineering.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Inspects new and existing aerial and buried facilities, construction, and/or properties for conformance.
  • Participates in meetings; meets with potential developers and the general public; assists with permitting and construction processes.
  • Serves as inspector-in-charge of a construction or repair project; including reviewing the work of consulting inspectors.
  • Coordinates with OSP construction for requirements.
  • Provides photos and sketches of poles as required.
  • Measures installed conduit and enters in MAPCOM system.
  • Provides as-built print with redlines, conduit footages and fiber sequentials.
  • Meets with customers and investigate complaints relating to right-of-way discrepancies, damages, etc.
  • Investigates errors that could cause material discrepancies between OSP records and placed facilities; assists in reconciling the differences.
  • Verifies OSP construction contractor billing, note changes from design and billing info.
  • Performs pole inspection checks, makes judgement on placing new pole or reinforcing old pole.
  • Verifies wire center information, pole numbers, class, and size of pole that was inspected.
  • Performs quality inspections for all contracts.
  • Follows up to ensure that work is performed in accordance with permit.
  • Other duties as requested by management.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT, or other related field preferred; High School diploma or GED equivalent allowed.
  • Must be dependable self-starter, able to work unsupervised in fast-paced, outdoor environment.
  • Thorough knowledge of accepted telco engineering practices. (5+ years’ experience).
  • Thorough knowledge of aerial and buried cable placement and splicing methods - copper and fiber. (5+ years’ experience).
  • Thorough knowledge of Engineering and Construction Practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of and 5+ years’ experience with telecom OSP and construction.
  • Ability to track, prioritize, & monitor multiple projects simultaneously & meet deadlines.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to navigate Google Earth, MAPCOM, and GIS.
  • Ability to identify existing OSP by type, size, etc.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Field engineering, inspection practices, basic design criteria for construction projects, and methods for correcting violations.
  • Ability to make complex, time sensitive field decisions related to projects and field engineering.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment/decisions within procedural guidelines.
  • Team player with well-developed interpersonal skills who is comfortable in a cross-functional, multi-cultural environment and is effective in working relationships with those encountered in daily work.
  • Knowledge of proper safety practices.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other telecommunication software.
  • Have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to legally work in the USA.
  • Current/valid driver’s license.
